Reflection on Unit 1: ICT in Education
Studying Unit 1 of my ICT module has been both enlightening and transformative. At first, I believed that ICT in Education simply referred to operating computers or using basic digital tools in classrooms. However, as I went deeper into the lessons, I discovered that ICT is actually about reshaping teaching and learning, and even influencing how we interact with society.
One of the most striking things I learned was Bhutan’s progress toward becoming a digital nation through the Digital Drukyul initiative. I was impressed to see how much effort is being put into making public services, education, and opportunities accessible through technology. This idea resonated with me because I often use online platforms and G2C services, yet I had never connected my daily use of these systems to the country’s broader digital vision. Now, I can see myself contributing, in my own small way, to this larger national goal.
The introduction of the SAMR and TPACK frameworks was another turning point for me. At first, these models seemed complicated, but through examples and class activities, I understood how teachers can either use technology as a direct substitute for traditional methods or redesign learning experiences entirely. I especially liked the concept of students producing their own blogs, podcasts, or short videos—creative tasks that feel far more engaging than submitting assignments on paper.
The group tasks we did were also very valuable. Whether it was preparing a structured ICT lesson or exploring TPACK through the jigsaw method, I realized that effective ICT integration is not about showing off new apps or gadgets. It requires deliberate planning and the right balance between pedagogy, content, and technology. This realization was a real eye-opener for me.
Reflecting on my future role as a teacher, I no longer want to rely on PowerPoint slides and call it ICT use. Instead, I aim to be innovative and willing to try fresh approaches that encourage students to learn in more active and creative ways.
To sum up, Unit 1 was not only informative but also meaningful on a personal level. It gave me theoretical knowledge, but more importantly, it inspired me to see myself as part of Bhutan’s digital transformation. I feel more confident and motivated to explore how ICT can enrich my journey as both a learner and a future educator.
